Three popular aftermarket products are hitting mainstream new cars in 2025.
1️⃣ Modular Rooftop Tent Systems
KIA Motors showcased a cutting-edge modular rooftop tent system at SEMA and the LA Auto Show last November. The advanced tents feature integrated solar panels, battery storage, LED lighting, awnings, and app-controlled setups.
The trend towards modular versions began in 2020-2021, gaining popularity due to the rise of remote work. Expect OEMs like Rivian and Jeep to incorporate similar systems, potentially impacting aftermarket sales.
2️⃣ Full Windshield AR Heads Up Displays (HUD)
BMW Group recently unveiled its Panoramic Vision HUD, utilizing augmented reality (AR) to project real-time data onto the windshield. This innovative system displays navigation cues, lane guidance, speed details, and hazard alerts, along with smartphone integration for call notifications and infotainment functions.
What sets it apart is its expansive display area, covering the entire width of the windshield base, offering a significant upgrade over existing / aftermarket HUDs.
3️⃣ Modular In-Vehicle Power and Connectivity Hubs
Ford Motor Company is set to enhance its “Pro Power” hub in the F-150 for 2025, offering up to 9.6kW of exportable power through various outlets. The "Pro Work Station" option includes USB-C ports, wireless charging, and FordPass Connect 5G Wi-Fi.
The concept of portable power stations is gaining traction, with brands like EcoFlow displaying versatile solutions at CES. These systems integrate inverters, battery packs, Wi-Fi hotspots, and app-controlled features. And they're hinting at a future where EVs may come equipped with swappable power stations for next level convenience.
